I just recently learned a valuable lesson that has helped my life. 1 to 2 tablespoons of RAW honey just before you go to bed gives you sufficient glycogen your brain needs to refuel. What is glycogen? Glycogen is the form in which sugar is stored in muscle as ready to use fuel. While we sleep our brain refuels by pulling glycogen from the liver. When glycogen stores are insufficient the brain triggers the release of stress hormones, adrenalin and cortisol in order to convert muscle protein into glucose. Without sufficient glycogen our brain works overtime searching for the glycogen to fuel itself. This is one of the reasons you may feel more tired when you wake up in the morning.
Taking 1 to 2 tablespoons of raw honey as you are going to bed feeds your liver with the neccessary glycogen your brain needs to refuel.
I have been eating raw honey before I go to bed for the last 3 months. There were 2 seperate nights that I did not take my honey before bed and I awoke feeling more tired. As a mom to 4 active children I am very grateful to have found this bit of information which has helped me feel more energized.
