Cooking Canned Foods Before Eating

For home canned beets do you have to cook them for 10 minutes covered before eating, or can one just take the contents out and eat without cooking? Also, what about the canned whole tomatoes, carrots? I don't want to poison anyone!

You don't have to cook your vegetables that have been properly preserved. You can eat them right out of the bottle. I like to heat them before eating because I like my vegetables hot, but that's the only reason.
